Dining benefits and meal reimbursement

Dining benefits

As an undergraduate and TUVA student, you are entitled to a free student lunch during your study days. To prove your right to a free meal, you must have an ID card with a bar-code with you every school day. For example, an identity card, passport, KELA card, driver’s license or moped card. The right to meals is guaranteed right from the first day of study.

If you do not have a Finnish personal identification number, you will receive a temporary permit card in your edu.fi email, which you can use until you receive an official card. The temporary permit card also works as an image from the phone screen.

The catering service staff is happy to guide you in the use of the card reader and also supervises the lunch right every day.

The meal allowance does not apply to professional and specialized vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, workforce and personnel training. The price of lunch is €5.30.

Meal reimbursement

A student in undergraduate and TUVA education is entitled to a free meal on study days included in the study at the educational institution, during study trips or in training organized at the workplace. If meals are not possible on these study days, the student will be paid a meal allowance.

The amount to be reimbursed is EUR 4.00/day. For natural resources undergraduate students €6.50/day. The benefit does not apply to apprenticeship or workforce training.

For more information on how to apply for meal allowance, refer to the instructions on the front page of Wilma titled ‘Koulutussopimuksen ateriakorvauksen hakeminen’ (in Finnish) or to your coaching teacher.

Special diets

Report special diets to the student restaurant in advance using a form that you can get from your own canteen or you can print the form(siirryt toiseen palveluun, avautuu uuteen ikkunaan) here and deliver it to your canteen. (form in Finnish, English version coming soon)

Fresh vegetables and herbs.

Health and sustainability

Meals are planned in accordance with national nutritional recommendations. A full meal includes warm food, salad, beverage and bread. You can also buy healthy snacks and cafe products from the cafe.

When you eat well, you feel well. For your well-being, it is important that you eat every school day! Having a meal together with friends is a nice break from studying all day.

In accordance with good manners, come to the student restaurant without a cap and outerwear, taking into account your fellow diners.

If you take it, don’t leave it – a campaign for sustainability

Let’s reduce food waste and support sustainable development in food preparation and serving! Reducing food waste affects transport emissions and the amount of biowaste. When food waste is reduced, also the consumption of water and energy used for food production is reduced.

Let’s produce food only for nutrition, not for waste. All student canteens are participating in this waste monitoring campaign.
