Bullying and harassment

In Riveria we have zero tolerance for bullying or harassment.

The student must perform his tasks conscientiously and behave in a matter-of-fact manner. The student must behave without bullying or discriminating against others, and act in such a way that he does not endanger the safety or health of other students, the educational institution community or the study environment. (531/2017, § 94 Student’s responsibilities)

Bullying always hurts! Be a fair classmate to everyone. Show your support to the bullied person and make sure they are not left alone. Did you know that staff must always intervene in bullying? There are many forms of bullying. If someone feels bullied, the issue must always be addressed.

How to act in situations that involve bullying

1. It is important to report bullying to a staff representative.
2. Bullying can be brought to light either by the victim themselves or by anyone who witnesses it. Record the details of the incident for further processing.
   – The time and place where the bullying occurred
   – Who was present at the situation, what happened during the situation
   – Preserve evidence such as social media, text, and email messages
3. The matter will be investigated with the help of trained personnel.

6. Usually, the investigation of the situation starts by talking to all parties involved. After this, we agree on how to proceed.
7. You can also contact the school counselor, psychologist, or nurse. Conversations are confidential.
8. You can also make an electronic security report about bullying, which will be processed by Riveria’s security team.
9. All information is treated confidentially, i.e. the name of the informant will not appear anywhere, unless the informant so wishes. However, it is a good idea to leave the contact information together with your security notice, so that it will be easier to find out.

11. The teacher or the principal must report any harassment, bullying, discrimination or violence that has occurred in the learning environment or on the school trip to the guardian or other legal representative of the student who is suspected of it and who is the subject of it. (531/2017, § 80 Right to a safe study environment)
12. In some situations, Riveria staff are obligated to contact the police. An example of a reportable crime is assault. From the perspective of the duty to report, age does not matter; the act itself is decisive.

Sexual harassment

If you witness or are subjected to sexual harassment, inform the harasser how their behavior makes you feel. Ask the harasser to stop. This is the recommended course of action if you encounter sexual harassment at school, in a dormitory, or during a work placement.

• Record the details of the incident for further processing:
  – The time and place where the harassment occurred
  – Who was present at the situation, what happened during the situation
  – Preserve evidence such as social media, text, and email messages
• If you do not want to contact the harasser or if the harassment continues, report the matter to the staff.
• Report sexual harassment to the staff even if it is not directed at you.

• All cases of sexual harassment are addressed.
• The victim of harassment is directed to student welfare support services. Use your right to these services. Conversations are voluntary and confidential.
• Riveria staff are obligated to report suspected sexual offenses against students under the age of 18 to the guardian, police, and child protection services.

Издевательства могут проявляться в различных формах. Поэтому в случаи проявления любой неприязни или травли, необходимо действовать следующим образом:

2. О случаях издевательства или домогательства может рассказать сам пострадавший, либо свидетель происходящего.
3. Все случаи будут тщательно расследованы при содействии специалистов.
4. Тщательность расследования зависит от серьезности случая.
5. Обычно урегулирование ситуации начинается с обсуждения случая со всеми вовлеченными сторонами. Тогда же происходит договоренность о дальнейших действиях.
6. О случаях издевательства можно сделать уведомление в электронном виде, которое будет рассмотрено службой безопасности Riveria.
7. Вся информация будет рассматриваться конфиденциально, то есть имя уведомителя не будет фигурировать нигде, если только сам уведомитель не пожелает этого. Тем не менее, просим оставить контактную информацию в уведомлении для облегчения расследования дела.
