Acquiring competence
You will choose and plan the learning environments and methods of studying together with a teacher or a study counselor to make learning as meaningful as possible.
Workplace learning
You will acquire most of the professional skills defined in the curriculum at the workplace. At the same time, you gain general competencies for working life and lifelong learning. You develop practical professional skills either through a training agreement or an apprenticeship, as well as under the guidance of a teacher in various collaborative projects. These can be flexibly combined during your studies.
You will plan each period of workplace learning together with your teacher and workplace supervisor. Workplace learning will be recorded in your personal competence development plan (PCDP).
Planning
- The supervising teacher will inform you about workplace learning and guide you in finding a placement.
- The supervising teacher ensures that the placement you apply for meets the professional skill requirements and safety standards of the degree, and is responsible for drafting the necessary agreements with the workplace before the period begins.
- The agreement will include, among other things, the job tasks and work shifts.
- The teacher and the workplace representative will sign the agreement and inform you.
Orientation and guidance
- The workplace supervisor is responsible for your orientation and guidance at the workplace.
- The teacher guides and supports your learning by visiting the workplace and through various means. The teacher and the workplace supervisor can also monitor your learning through a learning diary.
Feedback and assessment
- The workplace supervisor and the teacher will provide you with feedback throughout the period on how you are progressing towards the set goals.
- In the demonstration, you will show your competence.
- The competence required to complete the common parts of the degree can be demonstrated in written or oral exams, various assignments, and in a demonstration when the competence is shown in connection with a vocational qualification part.
School facilities
While studying and practicing in the institution’s facilities, you will acquire new skills and knowledge needed in working life. Riveria’s learning environments enable active collaboration with working life and promote interaction, participation, and building communal knowledge.
Workshop activities are an open learning environment where you can study both vocational and common subjects. You can study alone or together, with support or according to your own goals. The workshops are open daily or several times a week, depending on the location. Learn more about the workshop activities here: Study Workshops.
If you are considering discontinuing your studies or changing your degree, contact your personal coach, study counselor, or school social worker.
